I had the pleasure today of helping at our Scout Challenge & PR day which appears to have been a successful event judging by the interaction of our scouts! Our ADC for scouts Darren Keach wanted to do something a little different for the annual scout challenge day, something that normally is based at a camp site. This year it was combined with a PR event and we set up a mobile climbing tower in Nuneaton town centre and challenged scout troops from across the district to climb as many time as they could to reach a target.
Each scout climbed in relays around the tower. The climbing instructor team from 1st Bedworth worked really hard during the day and as each scout team were briefed and harnessed they were off. The grand total for the day was 3,000metres with our girl troop from 1st Bedworth achieving the highest section total climbed followed by 1st Bulkington and 11th Nuneaton. The general public were very interested in our display of our scouting skill and a range of photographs and leaflets were available to take away. We had a good number of enquiries and will of course follow these up and hope to gain new members into our scouting family. Great work by everyone, thank you.
A little later in the afternoon our Beaver scout section held a craft afternoon. Shaun Marshall organised the session for the youngest section of scouting to get creative with a range of Saint George themed items as part of the build up to our annual St Georges day service and presentation. Some of the items the Beaver scouts made will feature at the service on April 21st at Nicholas Chamberlaine School in particular Saint George shields which will feature their group’s names. I too was invited to make a shield and opted for a district badge theme which required a steady hand and I have to say some concentration on my part. All in all good time was had by all and I look forward to seeing the art work created by the Beaver scouts on display at our service. Clive.
